It's simply because their ‘why’ come from a deep understanding of what they are doing
Hii, Buddy! How are you? Hope you're feeling okay. If not, I'll pray for your health and your goodness.
It's me from Artspace and today I want to talk about intellectual stimulation. Hope you enjoy it!
It was rain when my dad asked me to pick him up. I rushed from my bed knowing that it was so cold out there. He safely landed at our house through heavy rain. He thanked me later, I just nodded my head because what else could I do for my dad in my circumstances right now. He slept in a pouring rain.
Agatha, my friend, called me in the middle of night. She is my childhood best friend and we're counting years on how far we can share things in our current life. However, it seemed strange that she called me in the midnight, she must know that I can't receive a phone call in a late night. “Hai, Agatha. what's up sis? is there anything wrong?” I asked her patiently. She shook her head, “Nothing, it's just late in the night and I wonder what’s happening in your mind right now. What have you been thinking lately?” she asked me back and confusing me. “It's midnight sis. There's one thing I crave right now, gelato ice cream.” She didn't look happy with my answer. “I've been thinking about philosophy recently. I never know that this subject can have a broad definition of life.” She began to approach a topic and I assumed this one was a hot take.
“Tell me more about it,” I said.
“I don't know, probably because I read an Instagram posts about Kant's writing. I never knew him, but I think his opinion is truly interesting. Have you ever been into situation where you’re so caught up in the topics and you just need a stimulation to learn more about the stuff?” she explained her interesting on philosophy and deep down in my heart I wanted to say that she needs to talk with my other friend who is very enthusiastic about philosophy, Mike.
“Yes, I know that feeling. and sometimes, it feels stuck when we don't know where to we satisfied this craving. Agatha, you should meet my friend, Mike, if you want to talk about it. He likes to think deeply in my aspects of his life, and yes, it feels like a horror movie but without a jump scare.”
“oh, mike, I know him. he is the man in the flowers shop right?”, I nodded my head, “ya ya ya. let's meet again tomorrow in that shop, I'll call Mike later.”
We met in the gelato shop. Mike, a friend from college moment, is a genuine person. He studied social sciences in economics but also has a lot interest with philosophy. One of the intellect man in my circle.
“I can relate to your feeling, Agatha, and do really agree with the kind of stimulation you're talking about. I remember when I studied about roses for my sister's wedding, don't u remember it?” he asked me while I ate my bread. I just nodded my head. “It may sound so basic and meaningless for other people, but I do really cared on the kind of roses I wanted to give to my sister in her wedding. The yellow, the red, the pink, are different. That curiosity led me to learn more about flowers. My brother holds a master’s in botanical. He is the reason for the flame of my curiosity about flowers. I kept asking him questions related to flowers.”
“I never knew that your curiosity fired up more because of your brother. I thought it was because of your love to learn. You’re basically are a learner of everything,” I was too shocked to listen his argument, because all I knew about him is he is a learner and no reason could stop him from his learning desire.
“No, I haven't told you about the reason for my learning desire for everything. There's always things behind that water my curiosity and my learning desire. It's like an intellectual stimulation, like Agatha said. And the vast majority of people will say it’s a ‘why’ or purpose. I believe that intellectual stimulation can drive far more we ever expected rather than just a single purpose.”
“I'm on your side, Mike. I think, finding the ‘why’ can take a lot of energy and sometimes, left unanswered. While the intellectual stimulation can explore to the deeper meaning of something and hopefully gives us the ‘why’..” Agatha replied.
“Then what about the Friedrich Nieztsche, ‘He who has a why can bear any hows’ is it applicable to the life’s desperation or only to the learning curiosity or desire?” I asked back to them. The tension of this conversation was too hot to neglect. The waiter came again, asking for our next menus, probably because we’d sat here for too long. Then, Mike requested a premium macaroon, and hot chocolate. “That phrases probably can be applied for both. However, for the learning desire, I think, it's not necessary because curiosity doesn't need a why, does it?” Agatha with her desire to learn philosophy, put forth logical answer, in my opinion.
“I kinda agree with you, Agatha. Imagining all the scientists having to find their ‘why’ for every curiosity of something in their heart, it would probably take a lot of time to solve certain issues. It's simply because their ‘why’ come from a deep understanding of what they are doing. What do you think, Mike?”
“A deep understanding of what they are doing, that's a good line, sister. I like it. Probably in life desperation, we need to know what exactly we're doing so we can bear any ‘hows’ like the phrase from Nieztsche. But, in learning, I think it has a profound connection with the deepest parts of our soul. Sometimes, a subject or a question pops up in our mind, it drives so crazy that we crave for stimulation. I think this situation doesn't need any ‘why’; it solely connected with our deepest need to know more about this world.”
“Remember that we're designed to be a warriors simply because our mind are meant to survive. In order to save ourselves, we need to learn our surroundings. That could be the ultimate reason for our desire and the stimulation we're talking.”
I replied while my mind simultaneously creating new words and sentences to bump again in this conversation.
“So, it's basically like we're a warrior in our own war, isn't it?” and it felt like Agatha concluded this topic. Mike and I were smiling towards that sentences and said, “That's right, Agatha,” Mike said. “So, we need to re-organize our own strategies, including our learning desire, so that we can win in our own war.” he added.
The three of us keep giving an updates to each other. Last March, I heard that the two of them, Agatha and Mike, were in a relationship, I was so happy for their relationship and prayed for the best for them. I move from my dad's house to London to pursue my master degree in Communication and Social Studies. Intellectual conversation with them fed my desire to find a good and productive circle in many areas of my life. Knowing that I could relate to one thing for sure, we should love to learn and re-organize ourselves.
