We're just trying to please the eyes that can see and we forget that the essence of beauty can't be fixated. It's what it's, says beauty.
Hii, I’m from Artspace. Let’s jump into a philosophy for today. We will talk about beauty.
“Beauty is subjective,” lots of people might say this to cover certain moral feelings. I felt the same thing, obviously. For example when it comes to the beauty of people. In doing so, I have question towards this kind of “beauty”: Is beauty only pleasing the eyes? The eyes that can see. Or, Is beauty can please the eyes that can see and the heart that can feel? Both are different, eventually. I just watched a Jordan Peterson Clip with Bishop Barron and Father Mike Schmitz about Beauty is “Burning Bush.” I stumbled upon the explanation of Bishop Barron about beauty.
“Beauty can rearranges what's inside of you.” You can watch the entire panel discussion here.
But, how come the beauty can rearranges what’s inside of you?
Here, I think, that beauty has heart, which definition is hard to lay out. That definition transcends eyes which only can see. The eyes are tools to absorb and know the beauty, but it's inside of you that can define the beauty itself. There's no explicit definition of beauty; sometimes, we just agree upon something beautiful.
Have you ever found yourself asking deeper question when you heard a beautiful symphony, say Beethoven’s Symphony 7? You just agree and feel it in your heart that “It’s beautiful.” It moves inside of you to go deeper and feel the touch of the strings in the music.
Or, have you ever seen a beautiful person and argued with your friend about their beauty? No, you just nodded your head and said it’s true. There's no such complex definition of physical beauty. The modern world right now is trying to define the beauty specifically, for example, the Korean face standard. I think it's just ruining the essence of beauty; it's not to enhance the beauty. However, the world’s business towards beauty is a trillion-dollars negotiation. The rampant idea of beauty fixation through tons of beauty surgeries, skincare, make up, and other aesthetic routines can move aside the truest definition of beauty. We're just trying to please the eyes that can see and we forget that the essence of beauty can't be fixated. It's what it's, says beauty.
Sometimes, the beauty that moves inside of you can lead you to a different path or adventure.
Bishop Barron shared his journey to Paris when he was 29 years old; he saw a rose window in a gothic church, which brought him into his path to be a Bishop. I know, it’s too short to conclude but I believe that true beauty and well-aware mind can shift our hearts and mind to the most magnificent journey we never imagined.
The story of Moses is a story which I hold so strong in my heart. He saw the burning Bush while he was shepherding his sheep, turned out to be one of the most important events in the Bible. It’s God who spoke to him through the Burning Bush, who ordered him to led the Israel from Egypt’s slavery. His consciousness about the shocking event was an ordination for a divine journey of his life; that beauty had changed his axis of life.
“Life is full of misery,” said the pain.
“Life is full of fake smiles,” said the smizing
“Life is full of failure,” said the plan.
“Life is full of tremendous fall,” said the growth.
“Life is full of hate,” said the love.
But, beauty sees it from the edge of just-the-sake-of-beauty.
It is what it is, says beauty.
You can’t name the real definition of beauty or hope that your mind could produce a good explanation of beauty. No, it moves you. Something that moves you from the heart is unexplainable. It is what it is. So, find the beauty that can moves you inside out not only pleases your eyes.
Well, you’ve reached the end of the story today.
